What skills have you learned in your trade?
I was introduced to this trade by my step father therefore started learning at a very young age. At 18 my first responsibilities included basic office work such as purchasing of materials, liaising with customers, quotations etc. I progressed to meeting on site with clients, offering advice as to which products would best suit their needs, production planning etc. After my second year in the industry I took on my first project on site and so my training started.I ran a small team on site but overseeing them was not enough for my ambitious nature. I picked up a drill 3 days later and then became hungry on the how to....
My team was installing faster than our factory could manufacture therefore I started working overtime learning how to manufacture for the project. By the time i had completed this project, I had learnt how to manage a team, install certain products, basics of manufacture, meeting deadlines, cutting of glass and how to really work hard.
On my return to our factory the office just wasnt enough anymore. I became more involved in the factory, planning, learning more about profiles and how they work together. I learnt all that I could and improved where I could.
I continued to grow my knowledge as the years went on and 9 years after my introduction to the aluminium trade Phoenix Aluminium was born.
What certifications do you have?
Grade 12 ( Matric ) is my highest certification. I may not have certificates to prove all that I have learnt but i do believe that experience gained by practicals is of much value.
I have aimed to achieve knowledge in all aspects of the trade to continue to learn on a daily basis.
Any tips for people regarding contractors?
There are many contractors in East London. The lowest price does not always offer you best quality products or the best service. The best advice i can give is to do your homework. Ask the company for referrals. find out which systems they are using and what guarantees they offer on their products.
Do all contractors need a licence?
In the aluminium industry glazing certificates are required for new buildings. I believe that the most important factor, whether it be for a renovation or a new building, is that the product is manufactured according to regulations and is of the highest quality which all customers deserve.
Can you provide any client testimonials?
Client testimonials are available. We as a company measure our success at the regular return of our customers and new business via their referrals. Our name and motto were chosen for a reason. We take pride in our products and joy in the smiles on our customers faces.
