What Fitness plan would you recommend?
Fitness plans vary, depending on my client. The first thing I do when I met a new client is to go through an extensive medical history, and health history evaluation. We also discuss the clients goals.
After that, I give the client a work-out. This is a complimentary service that I provide, and is the best way for the client to see what kind of trainer I am, what kind of workout they can expect, and if I meet their requirements. It is like test-driving a new car before committing to buy it.
After assessing the clients histories, goals, and present physical condition, I can accurately prescribe a plan to ensure them success.
There is no cookie cutter answer to this question for any qualified trainer. Plans depend directly on the individual client.
What do people have to do to become healthy?
This is a tricky question to answer. Being healthy is a multifaceted concept. It involves body, mind and spirit. It is also an individual concept, and varies from client to client.
In general, my clients exercise regularly, and work on nutrition habits simultaneously. After a short amount of time, they begin to feel differently about themselves. They have renewed energy and increased mental strength as well as physical strength. This is what I strive to see as a trainer.
What is your history in the industry?
I have been in the industry for over 18 years. My formal education earned me a degree in exercise science. I am also certified through National Federation of Professional Trainers (N.F.P.T.).
While most of my career has been in a one-on-one basis, I also have extensive experience in professional gym settings, specifically with the Bally company. I have also designed private gyms for clients in Canada.
Can you tell us about targeting specific muscle groups?
Targeting specific muscle groups is relatively simple. If a client wants stronger abdominal muscles, we can do exercises that target those muscles. What does not work, however, is the spot-training method. In other words, If a client is 30lbs. overweight, and the majority of that weight is in their abdominal region, performing 1000 abdominal crunches a day will not get rid of that fat. However, the underlying muscles will get stronger. My approach to training is a whole-body approach, and it has proven effective.
On the other hand, if a client is rehabilitating a specific muscle that has been damaged, I know exercise physiology, anatomy and physiology inside and out. We can target any muscle that needs to be targeted, from multiple angles.
Can you help a client loose weight fast, if so how?
This is another trick question. CAN I help a client lose weight fast? Yes. WILL I? The answer is NO.
Weight loss is not an instant happening. Fad diets and extreme diets work temporarily. The person loses the weight they want. However, they are damaging to the persons internal organs and health in general.
For the above mentioned reasons, I advocate a slower, steady weight loss goal with nutritional guidance along the way.
