You can protect yourself from a tornado by building an underground basement house that will be stocking all safety gear for your family in case you get buried and will take time to locate you and remove you from there.

Also use protective gear means like food, lights, warm clothes, medication, some money, contacts numbers of everyone that can be of help, communication services and another way out from there on a different surface if possible to build one.

The best way to protect yourself from a tornado is to move out of the area known as the tornado belt (flat land areas) such as Oklahoma,Kentucky, Alabama, and Missouri. If that is not possible, the next best thing is to get in a bathtub, doorway, basement, or storm shelter as soon as the warning horn sounds. If you are driving never pull of the road to an overpass.

If you have a basement, you need to go to that area, if not probably in a closet or bathroom, Ive heard of people going into a bathtub which saved their lives, stay indoors, never go outside during a tornado, everyone should stay together if possible until the tornado passes.

Ive always heard that you should get in a ditch and lie there. Stay away from windows and doors and get in the lowest part of your house if you dont have a basement. Also, never stay in a mobile home. Tornados are attracted to mobile home parks for some unknown reason. A mobile home is not safe shelter during a tornado. Neither is a vehicle. Some people go to underpasses on the highway, but that can be dangerous depending on how the tornado passes. Dont try to outrun it in a vehicle either. Tornados can bounce around, so you cant really determine exactly where it will strike next. Hope this is helpful to you.

PUT YOURSELF IN EITHER A SHELTER UNDERGROUND OR A LOW LYING AREA. IF INDOORS PUT YOURSELF IN A BATHTUB WITH A MATTRESS OVER YOU TO PROTECT YOU FROM DEBRIS. YOU SHOULD TRY TO BE IN A SECURE STURDY BUILDING THAT HAS A SOLID FOUNDATION.
